2018-07-16: Burnt Trailer on the I-90 Requires Extensive Accident Cleanup

On July 16, 2018, Team Pro-Enviro and Team Pro-Tow responded to a call regarding a burnt-out trailer on the I-90 near North Bend, WA. The trailer had burned to the ground and left an incredible mess on a busy section of highway on Snoqualmie Pass. It required extensive accident cleanup and spill recovery.

We worked hard to clear debris and clean up wide-spread contaminants along the roadway and ditch. We moved quickly through this spill recovery to get all lanes of traffic open ahead of schedule.

Team Pro-Enviro and Pro-Tow worked with Miller Industries, Bobcat Company, Bobcat Equipment, Caterpillar, and Advanced Environmental Solutions to clear this accident cleanup and spill recovery.

Preventing Tractor Trailer Fires

While the cause of this particular fire is not in the report, a fire in the tractor can cause trailer and semi-truck fires. There are some things operators can do to help prevent tractor-trailer fires.

  • Inspect brakes before and after every trip.
  • Inspect the engine compartment, wheels, and axles for any grease or oil buildup that could ignite.
  • Report any electrical problems or warning signs as soon as possible, and bring the vehicle in for service.
  • Inspect the wheels for blown seals.
  • Be extremely careful smoking or using a lighter/matches near the truck and trailer. If possible, avoid it altogether.

What To Do When There’s a Fire

Every truck should have a tested and working fire extinguisher that is accessible. Pull the pin, aim it at the base of the fire, squeeze the trigger and try to extinguish the fire at the source.

If possible, uncouple the tractor from the trailer and move it away from the trailer as soon as possible. Continue to use the fire extinguisher if the fire remains and contact the Fire Department and other emergency services immediately for help.

Remember, Pro-Tow is available for emergency accident recovery and towing services 24-hours a day. In addition, Pro-Enviro is also ready to perform professional spill recovery and cleanup when required.

If there’s an accident that requires spill recovery, you know who to call!
