On March 6, 2020, Pro-Tow received a dispatch for truck accident recovery in Ravensdale. A dump truck had gone off the road and was in the ditch, needing heavy-duty towing. We went out to attempt a straight and forced winch extraction as per the customer’s request. However, when we arrived at the scene, we found an estimated 50 gallons of fuel and oil spilled because of the accident. Unfortunately, there was significant groundwater contamination that needed to be cleaned up too.
This Incident Was a Job For Pro-Enviro
Team Pro-Tow deemed the accident recovery unsafe without additional equipment and spill recovery personnel. The initial accident recovery was canceled at that time. The following morning, we received a second dispatch requesting accident recovery with full fuel spill recovery as well. Pro-Enviro was called to the scene.
Both Team Pro-Enviro and Team Pro-Tow arrived at the scene with a heavy-duty rotating crane style wrecker, heavy-duty recovery wrecker, vacuum truck, recovery support vehicle and trained operators. Upon arrival, we performed a full scene assessment. After the vac trucks had finished their work, we activated our semi-truck accident recovery plan and rigged up the dump truck for heavy-duty towing.
Leak Repair Required
Once we could safely return the dump truck to the roadway, we discovered that it was still dripping fuel oil. We used containment berms to contain that extenuating fuel contamination. For both legal and safety reasons, our team had to perform a repair on the leaky fuel tank to prevent further leaking during transportation. Thankfully, we were able to hook up the dump truck and safely tow it to our secured storage yard. Because the tank was still leaking, it went into a portable parking stall with a containment berm.
Spill Recovery Services Undisrupted
Pro-Enviro recognizes that even during a crisis, accident recovery services are still required to keep the trucking industry running. We directly service the transport and trucking industry, which has become an essential service as we fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Rest assured, we will continue to offer our emergency incident recovery, including spill recovery and cleanup, so we can get trucks back on the road making vital deliveries to hospitals, healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and supply warehouses.
