Offering compliant spill response across the Pacific Northwest

One thing is for sure: the recovery industry sure has our team on its toes! When the unexpected happens, we are prepared to shift quickly, troubleshoot and find resolutions.

During what began as a routine semi-truck tow from Tacoma to Pacific, Washington, a Pro-Tow operator discovered a serious issue mid-hookup. A hydraulic failure that led to an active spill beneath the tow truck itself!

We are usually the ones cleaning the spill, not causing it. In this case, we were responsible for both! This is proof that accidents and failures can truly happen to anyone. Here is what happened:

What Happened at the Scene

After arriving on location and connecting with the customer, the operator began the standard hookup process. Everything was proceeding as expected until the final pull on the under-lift. At that point, the equipment stopped working properly.

A closer inspection revealed the problem. Hydraulic fluid had pooled beneath the truck, and it quickly became clear that a pressurized line had failed. Recognizing the risk, the operator immediately shut down the truck to stop the flow, contained the spill and contacted a supervisor.

Absorbent mats were deployed to control the spread of fluid, buying valuable time and preventing the spill from moving beyond the immediate area. Queue Pro-Enviro by FleetEasy!

Spill Response: Hydraulic Leak Cleanup

Pro-Enviro Steps in for Hydraulic Leak Cleanup

Thankfully, quick action on the scene prevented this leak from getting out of control. It didn’t reach the surrounding soil or stormwater systems and had minimal impact on the environment.

Team Pro-Enviro was dispatched to manage the cleanup and ensure the situation was handled properly from both an environmental and compliance standpoint. By reinforcing containment, recovering affected materials, and overseeing proper disposal, we helped prevent a manageable incident from becoming a larger problem.

Because both the operator and response team acted quickly, the spill was contained before it could spread or escalate.

Minimizing Downtime, Maximizing Support

While the spill response was underway, a mechanic repaired the failed hydraulic line on-site. This kind of coordination is critical in fleet operations. We reduced downtime for ourselves and our customer, who still needed a tow!

To keep the original job moving, the operator returned to the yard, switched into a replacement tow unit, and headed back to tow our customer. What could have caused significant delays was instead handled efficiently, with minimal disruption to the customer.

One Call. Total Fleet Support.

This incident is a strong example of how integrated services make a difference in the field. With Pro-Tow and Pro-Enviro working together, the situation was handled seamlessly. From spill containment to cleanup to towing our customer’s truck, we got the job done.

There was no need to coordinate multiple vendors or delay decisions, which is especially important since our unit caused the leak. The right teams were already in place, and we could respond quickly when things went wrong.

Pro-Enviro provides fast, professional spill response across Washington, supporting fleets, transportation companies, and job sites when incidents happen. From hydraulic leaks to fuel spills, we respond quickly, clean thoroughly, and help ensure everything is handled safely and responsibly.
