We deal with a lot of diesel fuel cleanups, but usually from a leaky truck or a spill caused by a vehicle accident. This time, Pro-Enviro by FleetEasy was called to an underground parking garage in Bellevue, Washington, to clean up a mess on a concrete floor caused by overfilling a large diesel tank.

The space was tight, poorly ventilated, and surrounded by building systems that could easily be affected by vapors or fuel contact. These conditions required careful planning for the diesel spill cleanup.
As diesel continued to spread, it threatened to reach the lowest points in the concrete and move closer to the building drains. Fumes began drifting upward, putting people in and around the building at risk.
Specialized Equipment and Careful Access
As mentioned, we had to deploy specialized equipment and response teams to access and handle this spill cleanup. Each technician wore personal protective equipment (PPE), including specialized suits, to ensure safe entry into an area with high levels of diesel vapor.
Accessing the spill wasn’t simple. Our team had to navigate around parked vehicles, structural supports, and mechanical systems, all while preventing the fuel from spreading further. We got in and got to work!
Safe and Controlled Diesel Spill Cleanup
Removing the diesel required slow, meticulous work. The spill had traveled underneath vehicles and around sensitive building components, so we used extraction tools designed to prevent the fuel from entering drains or seeping into porous surfaces. Once the bulk of the fuel had been safely evacuated via vacuum equipment, we shifted to detailed cleaning. Diesel can leave behind a slick residue that clings to equipment and continues releasing fumes long after the visible spill is gone. Our team cleaned every impacted surface to ensure it was completely restored.
Thorough Follow-Up and Monitoring
Cleanup doesn’t end when the last bit of fuel is removed. In enclosed spaces like underground garages, monitoring is essential. After the area was restored, our technicians returned to assess for lingering vapors, check the performance of building equipment, and ensure that no residual contamination remained.
