Arrive at the Scene of the Semi-Truck Fire

When a commercial truck catches fire on a busy roadway, the aftermath can be just as dangerous as the flames. Burned debris, damaged components, leaking fluids and compromised tires create multiple environmental and safety hazards.
That is why law enforcement agencies, fleet operators and first responders rely on professionals like Pro-Enviro by FleetEasy for semi-truck fire recovery, cleanup and emergency spill response across Washington State.
This spring, our team responded to an incident at Highlands Dr NE and NE High Street in Issaquah, Washington, involving a fully-loaded car-hauler tractor that caught fire. In this article, we’ll share how we handled the recovery and why fire-damaged vehicles require professional environmental response.
Arrive at the Scene of the Semi-Truck Fire
Our team was dispatched with our environmental response unit. When we arrived at the scene in Issaquah, fire crews had extinguished the blaze, but the tractor had sustained serious damage. The ground around it was covered with burned materials and fuel residue. The trailer remained fully loaded and could not be disconnected safely because the tractor’s airbags had deflated during the fire.
Our Pro-Enviro operator worked with the Issaquah Police Department and the driver to secure the area.
As the operator described, “I cleaned debris from around the tractor and placed cones out while waiting for assistance.” These actions helped limit the spread of contaminants and protected the area until additional equipment arrived.
Stabilizing the Trailer and Preparing for Recovery
Since the tractor could not support the weight of the trailer, this semi-truck fire recovery required a technician to restore enough air pressure to lift the suspension. We needed to inflate the airbags to release pressure on the suspension and disconnect the trailer.
Once the airbags were inflated, the team caged the brakes, removed the driveline and separated the tractor from the trailer. This step prevented further damage to the equipment and reduced the risk of additional fluid leaks.
Removing Debris and Containing Spills
A truck fire often results in residue from melted plastics, burned wiring, charred rubber and fluid contamination. It usually requires a complete spill response and cleanup.
Pro-Enviro handled the necessary debris removal and placed absorbent materials to prevent any remaining fluids from reaching nearby soil or drainage systems. By the time we finished this stage of the cleanup, one full debris bag had been collected and safely stored for disposal.
Completing the Recovery
After the initial cleanup, the burned tractor was transported to our secure yard. The three vehicles it had been carrying were still intact, and the owner met our team at the yard to transfer them to another truck. This took about an hour and required careful planning and slow unloading and reloading. Check out the photos to see how we did it!
After the transfer, we positioned the damaged tractor in the yard and placed containment under it to capture any remaining leaks. The team secured equipment and finalized the call.
Why Fire-Damaged Vehicles Need Professional Spill Response
A fire-damaged tractor can release contaminants long after the flames are out. High heat can weaken seals, crack hoses, melt plastics, damage electrical systems, and compromise fuel and hydraulic components. Even small amounts of leaked fuel or oil can create environmental harm if they reach soil or stormwater systems. Quick, professional cleanup is essential, not only to protect the environment but also to comply with Washington State requirements for handling hazardous materials.
Pro-Enviro responds with trained specialists, proper containment tools, safe removal methods, and full waste documentation. Our goal is to make the site safe while keeping fleets compliant and reducing long-term risk.
