2023-03-15: The Importance of Perishable Cargo Recovery

Team Pro-Enviro went to great lengths to save a client’s perishable cargo during a tractor-trailer accident recovery back in October 2020. The container had flipped over on its side, and there was damage to the refrigeration system, causing a leak. We got the container safely to our storage yard, where we took extraordinary measures to keep the unit cool and the cargo frozen.

Here are some reasons why saving perishable cargo is extremely important to our clients:

Financial Loss Across the Board

Perishable cargo, such as food, medicines, and vaccines, can be costly. So if they spoil or expire before reaching their destination, it can result in significant financial losses for the sender, receiver, and anyone involved in the transportation process. As a result, transport companies rely on teams like Pro-Enviro for fast and effective perishable cargo recovery.

Health and Safety

Perishable goods not correctly stored or transported can become contaminated and pose a health risk to consumers. This risk is higher for food and medicines, where spoilage or contamination can cause serious illnesses or worse.

Spoiled Reputation

Perishable cargo isn’t the only thing that can spoil! Companies that transport or sell perishable goods rely on their reputation to attract and retain customers. If they fail to deliver high-quality, fresh products, it can damage their reputation and cause them to lose business.

Damage to the Environment

The transportation and storage of perishable goods often require significant energy and resources. If you lose perishable cargo in transport, it can result in unnecessary waste and environmental damage. For example, keeping the refrigeration unit running in a container takes a lot of energy, especially if the cargo must remain frozen.

Anyone in the business of transporting perishable goods knows how vital appropriate storage and transportation facilities are. You need refrigerated containers, temperature-controlled warehouses, and specialized vehicles and containers like the one we recovered on the SR18. If something goes wrong with one of these things, perishable cargo recovery is required to save the load.
