In the event of a diesel fuel spill from a semi-truck accident in Washington State or any other location, Team Pro-Enviro will use a combination of products and equipment to clean up the spill. We’ll also use this equipment and supplies to mitigate its environmental impact.

Remember that what we use can vary depending on the size of the spill, its location, and environmental factors. However, some common tools and materials can help clean up a diesel fuel spill.

Absorbents

Spill response teams like Pro-Enviro often use absorbent pads, pillows, or granular absorbents for spill recovery. The white powder material in our photos is made from recycled, chemically modified cellulose fibers. They use nitrogen, phosphorous and sulfur to consume hydrocarbons. It wicks away the diesel fuel and engine oil and assists with the biodegradation of the harmful fluid. The toxins are absorbed, preventing them from getting into the ground or running into the storm drain.

Containment and Sorbent Booms

We use these floating barriers to prevent the spill from spreading further. In addition, we deploy them around the immediate spill area to keep the diesel fuel spill from spreading.

Like containment booms, sorbent booms absorb and contain oil or fuel on the water’s surface. They can be particularly effective in aquatic environments.

Vacuum trucks

Pro-Enviro employs vacuum trucks with specialized pumps and storage tanks to recover significant quantities of spilled fuel and contaminated water from the spill site. If the diesel fuel spill is in a watery ditch or other waterway, you might see a vacuum truck on the spill recovery site.

Spill Disposal Equipment

A spill response team must dispose of spilled fuel and contaminated materials correctly. Spill response teams will use special containers, drums, or tanks to store and transport the collected waste to approved disposal facilities.

Heavy Equipment

A spill recovery will often be part of a significant accident recovery mission. Pro-Enviro works with Pro-Tow to safely remove and transport large vehicles and equipment, like semi-trucks and trailers, away from the scene. To do this, we use heavy-duty crane-style wreckers.

In addition to the towing equipment, we often need heavy equipment to assist with the debris and diesel fuel spill cleanup. For example, we’ll use bobcats and excavators to move contaminated soil, sweep up absorbent, and more.

Following Local Regulations

Pro-Enviro carries out our spill recovery procedures per local and federal regulations. The specific approach may vary based on the circumstances of each spill. Additionally, trained professionals with experience in hazardous materials cleanup are essential to ensuring a safe and effective response.
