2019-10-22: Revisited: Fuel Spill Recovery on Tiger Mountain

Depending on the type of semi-truck or cargo trailer accident, multiple recovery types might be involved in spill cleanup. A fast, professional, and efficient accident recovery plan and process are essential to ensure no further incidents occur, to ensure safety, and to help keep roadways open as usual. The process could involve truck and trailer recovery, cargo load, heavy equipment, or fuel spill recovery.

At Pro-Enviro, we are focused on providing reliable and efficient fuel spill recovery. When the job is bigger than spill containment, we depend on our heavy-duty recovery and towing team to recover all parts of the accident or incident safely and quickly. For example, Team Pro-Enviro and Team Pro-Tow faced a few years ago on Tiger Mountain.

Fuel Spill on Tiger Mountain

In the fall of 2019, Pro-Enviro responded to a call about an overturned tractor-trailer. The trailer became overturned on the Tiger Mountain summit, causing it to lose its cargo and leak oil and fuel over the highway. Along with reporting the fuel spill to local authorities, spill containment is the first essential step in accident recovery.

In this incident, Pro-Enviro first contained the spill by removing the fuel and oil source. This involved careful truck and trailer recovery alongside fuel spill recovery and containment.

The Fuel Spill Cleanup Process

In the case of the Tiger Mountain vehicle accident, Pro-Enviro was tasked with cleaning up general debris on the roads, containing leaking oil and fuel, and removing contaminated soil. We also worked with other hazardous materials, including all vehicle oils, fuels, fluids, and other biohazardous chemicals.

Pro-Enviro must work closely with emergency response crews and local authorities in all cases. A well-planned spill response recovery involves all emergency teams working together and fully complying with Waste Manifest DEO and the EPA.

Next was handling the excessive debris on the roads. The debris was collected and contained, and the roadway was swept and cleaned. The embankment also needed reshaping, which we did to the maximum practical extent. Emergency fuel spill cleanup response protocols were implemented to handle the fuel and motor oil spills, and we used a compact trailer to remove the contaminated soil.

Full recovery from the accident and fuel spill also required the removal and transportation of the involved truck. Pro-Tow was here to handle the job successfully, while Pro-Enviro hauled away all contaminated debris and soil.
