In this incident, on August 5, 2021, Team Pro-Enviro was called to clean up a diesel spill in a parking lot caused by a multiple-truck accident. We immediately put together the necessary equipment for the cleanup and then set out for the scene and the diesel spill recovery.

We dispatched V201 (environmental supply vehicle), B213 Medium Duty wrecker towing a vacuum trailer, E118 towing Bobcat, and a 14,000 lbs trailer. At the scene, we started by setting up a safety boundary and documented and took pictures of the incident.

Containing and Beginning the Storm Drain Cleanup

After we inspected several catch basins, we established the spill was contained to a single location, but some had gotten into a storm drain. We then informed the Department of Ecology and the City of Kent and filed the official report. Then, we set to work on the cleanup and diesel spill recovery.

Our team used the vacuum trailer to evacuate all the liquids from the affected storm drain to prevent further contamination. We also used liquid containment and absorbent snakes for the storm drain cleanup. From there, our parking lot surface was cleared and cleaned like it never happened.

We used pressure washers, the vacuum trailer, waste absorbent granules, Bio enzymatic cleaners, brooms, shovels, and the track loader sweeper attachment.

Diesel Spill Recovery Finalized and Final Inspection

It was time for the final inspection with the storm drain secured and the parking lot cleanup underway. The Department of Ecology and the City of Kent showed up on the scene and inspected our progress. They approved the plan to complete the job, so we continued our work.

We reconditioned the parking lot surface, took additional photos and ensured the documentation was stored correctly. We then returned the equipment to the yard, restocked and reconditioned the equipment so it was ready for the next potential spill recovery or storm drain cleanup.
